The Italian Heritage band had a good recording session about a week ago and now it is being asked to play some tunes for a possible TV show. Wow!

While a different instrument, I go back and forth with the ”crutch” that many use to orient the right hand on a bassoon. I have shortened them due to the size of hand but I really feel like I have more dexterity if I don’t use it.

Why or Why Not???” I started with a shoulder, I been recently without a shoulder rest for 2 years I find it easer to play. I miss the rehearsals. I’m helping out a school in VT on Wednesday evenings and will miss most rehearsals before the end of the year. I will be there the week before the recording session and before the first holiday concert; I do hope that will be enough so that I don’t blunder during the performances. As always, I don’t know if I’ll be playing bassoon or bari sax. Seems like that depends on the other bari players.

I find that I’m better in other ways than I used to be. Especially being able to come in after getting lost and also sensing when I’m a little off and need to back out for some reason.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new music. I’m helping out a school in Vermont to Wednesday evenings but in setting it up I negotiated 2 Wednesdays for rehearsals. One will be the week before the recording session and the other a week before the first holiday concert. I sure hope it comes together so those events go well. I’m already looking forward to having Wed open starting in January so I can rehearse more.

I’m having some trouble navigating this site. I have tried to visit the blogs of the IHCB members and have contributed to my own pre-created blog but I can’t figure out how to start a new blog. I do have a forum called ”Why did you start playing?” and that has had a few responses but it doesn’t show up under the blogs heading and it seems hard to get to.
Anyone able to help?
Mike, I’m having the same problem. I’ve been posting, but not blogging (I guess). Bob told me to click on ”My Blogs” at the top, but nothing happens. I think that whoever created this site needs to open his tweak box and make it more user-friendly. Let me know if you get this…..ahh…..post?? Dick

My name is Mike. I started playing sax and bassoon at about age 15. I didn’t play either from age 19 to 30 and then started them again. For the past 10 years I try to learn the basics of a different instrument each year; I take to some and not others. My two most recent are the flute and chromatic harmonica (which I played for the first time in front of people the other night); I wasn’t good but the setting was a lecture on audio editing and the instrument worked well for that. If I fit the group intent, I’d like to join.

For that matter, if anyone has a blog they want me to look at let me know and give me a hint of how to get there. This may be a common place for my daughter and nephews but it certainly isn’t for me.

Can’t make practice tomorrow because of a teaching gig I really shouldn’t pass up. Not matter how hard you try, as an amateur musician things get in the way.

I’m packing for our Italy trip. It is a bit tricky with a bassoon and assorted sax mouthpieces. I’ve put my reed knife in my checked bag and dumped the water from my reed soaking container. I think I’ve got all the parts laid out right, but, I always forget something. What will it be this trip?
